Creative arts

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts.

Studying the creative arts, students learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform. Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Students must study 100 hours of both music and visual arts during Years 7 to 10. They also have an opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills in other art forms through elective subjects including drama, dance, photography and visual design. Students can then select from a range of courses in Years 11 to 12.

The Creative and Performing Arts Faculty at Glendale Technology High School is diverse, comprising of Music, Visual Arts and Photography programs. The programs are delivered by teachers who are dedicated to providing programs that are engaging and structured to enable students to develop their creativity. We provide an inspirational and nurturing environment in which students can explore the varied aspects of creative arts as both lifelong passions and interest and a potential career choice. We run specifically designed and tailored Visual Arts programs within our Special Education Unit ensuring that all students engage with the Creative and Performing Arts.

Music

Our Music classrooms are set up to focus on instrumental learning in the Stage 4 Music program which then leads to individualised learning in the Elective classes. The classrooms utilise a range of technological devices to maintain a safe and efficient rehearsal environment including electronic drum kits and quiet rehearsal spaces.

Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own progress as they engage in exploring different styles to expand their understanding and skills in music. In the Elective classes emphasis is gradually placed on student-based activities as students learn to become self-motivated individuals that encourage students to specialize, resulting in greater expertise and skills.

In addition to the Music classroom curriculum, Glendale Technology High School also offers extra-curricular ensemble opportunities including Rock Bands, Vocal Group and Music Group. Students perform regularly at assemblies, showcases and the HSC CAPA night.

Visual arts

Our Visual Arts programs provide students with the opportunities to develop their creative flair and practical skills in art making across a wide range of mediums. Visual Arts continues to offer experiences that foster creative opportunities and challenge students to explore and express their ideas and feelings while developing skills that enable them to communicate visually and develop their personal identity.

The aim of Visual Arts at Glendale Technology High School is to involve our students in the process of visual communication. It's the journey that is remarkable, not just the destination. Students are encouraged to be innovative while they build skills and insight as they create art and enjoy new experiences.
