Aboriginal Education

Aboriginal Student Support

We are committed to closing the achievement gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strat Islander students. We know that we need to learn about, nurture and value the cultural identity of our Aboriginal students to help them be successful learners.

We welcome Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family members, parents and carers, as well as community members to our school so that we can get to know each other, learn about the local Aboriginal community and develop shared goals and plans for Aboriginal students.

The Aboriginal Education Policy confirms the NSW Department of Education's commitment to improvement in educational outcomes and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

At Glendale Technology High School, we offer a great range of initiatives to create a culturally inclusive environment where every student feels supported, valued and encouraged to succeed.

Our Initiatives

AEO Support for All Students

We are proud to have an Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO) on staff who is dedicated to supporting all Aboriginal families and students in their educational journey. The AEO is available to provide guidance, mentorship and help navigate any challenges you may face.

Ngaarr Dhuwi Girls Academy

We have a supportive program called Ngaarr Dhuwi girls Academy, along with two dedicated mentors who are here to provide a safe and nurturing space for growth, empowerment and leadership (see below for more information).

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Team

We are proud to have a RAP team at Glendale Technology High School, working together to build strong relationships, respect and opportunities for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We encourage new students to join us in this important work, helping create meaningful change in our school.

Yarn Ups and BBQ's

Twice a year we host Yarn Ups - casual gatherings where students, families and staff come together to share stories, ideas and experiences. These gatherings often include a BBQ providing a relaxed atmosphere for everyone to connect and enjoy each other's company.

Local AECG - Kumaridha

Our school is closely connected with the local aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG). We encourage you to join and be a part of this active community, working together to advocate for Aboriginal students and enhance educational opportunities.

Our Aboriginal Education Team

Glendale Technology High School is all about culture, wellbeing, and learning. Our Aboriginal Education space offers a safe, friendly place to connect, get help, and to feel proud of who you are.

Our Aboriginal Education Team is made up of:

Aunty Nat is Glendale Technology High Schools Aboriginal Education Officer, who is always there for a yarn and to provide cultural support to our students.

Brandii and Aly are your Ngaarr Dhuwi mentors - they'll be around to help you in class, check in, and cheer you on through your high school journey.

Ngaarr Dhuwi Girls Academy

The Ngaarr Dhuwi Girls Academy program is a holistic program that supports our young Aboriginal women through their 7-12 educational journey. Our mentor's role is to support female Aboriginal students through culture, wellbeing and education to increase self-determination and engagement to complete school.

Ngaarr Dhuwi have their own cultural academy space at Glendale Technology High School with 2 mentors being available full time, 5 days per week. This space works as a meeting place for our students to feel safe and connected.

Mentors work collaboratively with school executive, Aboriginal Education Officers, community, students, and parents to establish localised programs that cater for the needs of their female student cohort.
